Workplace noise monitoring
Prolonged exposure to excessive noise remains one of the most common causes of preventable occupational disease in New Zealand. A noise assessment characterises the noise environment in your workplace, evaluates personal exposure against the Workplace Exposure Standards, and provides practical recommendations for noise reduction and hearing conservation.
Sampling is run by a MAIOH-qualified occupational hygienist using calibrated Type 2 dosimeters and sound level meters, with measurements aligned to AS/NZS 1269.
What we assess
- Personal noise dosimetry — daily noise dose (LAeq,8h) per worker
- Area noise surveys and noise mapping
- Peak noise level assessment (LCpeak)
- Hearing protection adequacy review (SLC80 assessment)
- Engineering, administrative and PPE control recommendations
When to request a noise assessment
A noise assessment is appropriate when workers are regularly exposed to elevated noise levels, when hearing protection is in use, or when you need to establish a baseline for a hearing conservation programme. Many businesses are required to assess noise under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 — particularly construction, manufacturing, agriculture, and food processing.
